On Service Industry Jobs:
The music I play is too loud. The bands are never what they want to hear. My performance is never good enough. Our products aren’t as good as they were back in the day. I should be more gracious. I should smile when I don’t feel like it. I should be glad that I work here. I should learn to dress myself. There’s no companionship in books. Can I spare some tip money so that you can buy gas? Can you reset the wireless router? I’ve worked here for 8 months. It feels like an eternity. Can I leave? Can I fall backwards into money like the kids I grew up with? Can I at least fall back to sleep? I should be so lucky.
